The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Setting up speakers & speaker wires etc

Asked by hedgeselect in Home Theater Wiring & Accessories, Digital Living Hardware, Home Theater Speaker Systems

I'm getting my living room replastered and I want to future proof my appliances.  I plan to stick some speakers on my wall behind me where my sofas etc will be.  My flat screen will be on the wall in front of me.

My old bulky Toshiba surround sound TV (which I will not be using) previously had 5 speakers and I ran the cables around the room.

I now want to bury the speaker cable (79 strand / FIG 8 Twin) into the wall before the builders plaster it, however my question is whether these two strand flex wire can somehow be converted into one of those red and white phono plugs because my new Panasonic flat sreen does not have those "speaker type red and black grips" to take this speaker cable into, like my old Toshiba did.

My flat screen only has build in speakers and I dont really want to buy a separate amp for the surround sound.  Is there any way I can achieve what I want to do?  Should I be burying 10m phono (red and black) plug cables into the wall otherwise rather than speaker wire?

Finally what is the purpose of:

Digital Audio Out socket
Audio Out socket
Audio In socket
S-Video

Why would want to future proof my new walls by laying these cables in the plaster if I am already using 3xHDMI sockets and scart?  ALso is the speaker cable any good?

Thanks.
