Samsung Cable TV Set Top Box SMT-H3050 - Technical manual and forums needed
My audio volume is very low and I'm 100% sure I did something to create this condition. The TV set's volume is all the way at 100. But I can't seem to adjust the volume on the cable box. Press the volume + or + doesn't do anything.
I'm using a Samsung P2770HD TV connected with a HDMI cable. My volume is still low.
Also, can anyone send me a link to the technical manual for this set top box?

Off chance have you looked in the audio section of the Set top box and the TV using the remote control to naviagte to them to see if you have changed the audio channels surrround sound to 5.1 from stereo or a none supported setting?
If this happens some of the speakers on the TV my not work.
Also is this when you play DVD I have this same issue with a few DVD because of the Dolby Digital,
or when you watch TV digital or highdef TV channels << could be a faulty part or wrong cable,
my questions..

I can't adjust the volume on the converter box. I even rebooted the box STILL unable to adjust the volume.
Not watching a DVD at this point. Don't even have one hooked up. Just trying to record something on VHS and that's what is coming in at a low volume. I have cables running from the converter to the VHS recorder.

Very few audio setting on the Set top box. Gotta see if there are some settings are that are hidden and then figure out how to adjust them. i've looked through all the end-user settings to no avail.

Bare with me as I have visualize what you're doing there, but since I have used my VCR to put my old VHS to DVD I can only advise how I did it.
from the VCR you use the RF out ( Video) with audio out RCA left and right audio cables. to in on the TV.
I'm not familiar with your terminology converter box.
I have a Panasonic digital set top with dual tuners just to compare set top boxes it records to a hard drive.
There is two methos of doing this
connect the VCR to the TV AVS 1 play the VCR to confirm all is working ok on the TV
and then record from the set top box pointing it to the TV

Sounds like the audio feed is being crossed over somewhere and we need to take into account you're running a high definition TV.
if you have connected the VCR to the Samsung direct then the video and audio feeds have to transfer back to the TV so you can see it and hear it.
I think this is your problem.
Connect the VCR directly to the TV and route the other cables back to the Samsung lines in so you record it.
looking at the specs I dont think you have the right cables to hook the VCR to the Samsung set top box and then back from the TV to the Samsung Set top box.
Try doing it the other way as I mentioned above. This way you have freed up the cables from the set top box to the TV

How is the VCR connected to the TV?
if possible, connect the VCR directly to the TV without the STB in the mix; homerun the VCR output connection directly to the TV set. Then play a non-recorded tape in the VCR and check the audio. This will help you determine if it's a TV issue.

If you determine the TV is good, I suggest that you get another STB from the cable company if possible.
You can also try connecting the STB to another TV set (if possible). If the audio is low on the second TV, this will help convince the cable company that the STB is bad.

I have my STB connected to the VCR using rca-audio-composite-video-
Just for playback purposes,
and then connect the STB to the TV avs out
most TV support two" in" AVS in the front or at rear
and some RCA out with the dvi or input for DVD

It's an actual TV, not a monitor.
Here's something else I tried:
I connected my STB to my TV using an RG59U connection. No difference. Same low volume. I then exchanged the TV (It's less than a week old).
TURNS OUT THAT MY TV's speaker, or amp, is to blame! Samsung's internal speaker is very "low-fi"
So, I must accelerate my progress on connecting the TV to my audio system.

I ran out of connections from and to the TV it has only so many rca connections.
and my work around was an rca switch box

I connected the rca Audio out from the TV ( Rear) to this switch box audio in center
