With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

Eliminating .lnk & .url on XP Desktop

This is not a major problem as the PC in question works fine - it's more of an appearance / annoyance issue.

I've got 4 PCs running XP. On one of them, every desktop shortcut ot startup item has to have a .lnk at the end (e.g. notepad.lnk). These are visible on the desktop and the start menu. Ditto for desktop browser shortcuts (e.g. EE.url). These extensions are automaticall created when programs are installed etc. Shortcuts & menu items cease to function if the .lnk is removed.
