I tried deleting the "clientregistry.blob" file and restarting Steam - no luck. It continues to try and update, going up to 99% and starting over several times before I get the "Steam is unavailable message......" :(

Browse All TopicsHi Gurus,
I'm having problems getting Steam to work on my upgraded PC. When I start Steam, it starts the update process but once it hits 99%, it drops down to 26% again and repeats this process a few times before I get the error "Steam is currently unavailable, please try again later".
The Steam support page so far hasn't really helped me fix this problem. I wonder if the problem has something to do with the new AMD64 I've installed? Are there compatibility issues with AMD64 and Steam?
I disabled my Windows firewall and the router I'm using has worked fine with Steam in the past.
Any ideas how I can solve this problem?

First thing to try whenever Steam starts behaving oddly is to shut it down and delete the clientregistry.blob file. Then try reloading Steam again.
Personally, 99% of Steam problems have been resolved by doing this... hopefully it works for you in this case.
On a side note, Steam should run fine on AMD64 systems, with either Windows 32bit or 64bit editions, I've personally ran both fine.
Good luck :)
