Not enough information.

You don't state what version of DOS4GW this is or whether you are programming with it or what app you were using at the time.

DOS4GW came with many games and was supported by various compilers.

You may be able to download a later version of DOS4GW and replace the present version you have.  The present supplier of it is Tenberry but I can't find it for download on their site.  The latest version is 2.01 and is supposed to be there.

Version 1.97 is out there on the Net at various places.

Other possibilities are that you have equipment on the computer such as a network card that is interfering with the memory of your memory settings have not been correctly set up in the computer.  You don't specify your OS or your computer configuration.

I can't look up the version of my DOS/4GW on my computer, where can I look it up?

I'm using it with a dos game but everytime I pressed the play.bat it shows the above error message.

And how do I know whether my equipments have been set up properly or not, plus to check up the configuration and OS.

Thank You Very Much!

And yeah now... Sorry I looked it up, the version for the dos/4gw is already 1.97... And the others still need help to know how to fix it.

Thank You Very Much!

a What game?
b Are you running it under Windows?  If so which Windows.
c Can you determine how much memory is in your computer?

by: sky02Posted on 2002-09-15 at 01:42:30ID: 7281992

a) A game in Chinese but runs the same as to other type of
   DOS games.

b) above (DOS GAME) and my window version is 98 for the one
I'm using to play the game.

c) What memory are you looking for? CPU Memory/User memory?

d) Can you tell me also if you can of how to play a game
which says "Can not read the CD-ROM" and I know it's
due to that I've got two CD-ROM drives (ONE CD-ROM and
   ONE CD-RW)?

Looking for memory on the computer.

Try looking at CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT on the computer and paste back their contents.

The error seems to be a page fault so it may be your memory manager not set correctly.

Enhanced Windows 386 is already running

&

There's nothing in the CONFIG.SYS

There's nothing in the CONFIG.SYS

by: sky02Posted on 2002-09-15 at 17:43:53ID: 7283166

And after I checked it again, it says:

1024 extended memory allocated for symbols
8 extended memory allocated for back trace
31 extended memory allocated for exports
512 extended memory allocated for display memory

IS THIS WHAT YOU WANT?

But thanx for your help anyway!

by: dbruntonPosted on 2002-09-16 at 11:46:37ID: 7284220

Not really.

Try the following lines in CONFIG.SYS

device=c:\windows\himem.sys
device=c:\windows\emm386.exe

This will configure it for DOS memory settings.

by: sky02Posted on 2002-09-16 at 18:55:53ID: 7284997

Yep I've added it, then what do I do next?

Where are the configured settings shown?

by: dbruntonPosted on 2002-09-17 at 01:34:56ID: 7285531

Well try and run your game.  Hopefully it will accept those settings.

In a DOS session type mem and it should report back to you.

by: dbruntonPosted on 2002-09-18 at 00:31:33ID: 7287559

OK

This page at tenberry talks about the error you are getting but it seems to be of no help.

Try this link at Experts Exchange which suggests the solution.

http://www.experts-exchange.com/Miscellaneous/Games/DOS_Games/Q_10012120.html

The answer seems to run the game from DOS, boot into DOS on startup.

You could try disabling your sound card if it is integrated on the motherboard as well.
