Two men who lived on the planet of Tatooine were competing for a woman's hand in marriage. The father of the woman, who didn't really like either man, told them to take their speeders and race to the spaceport of Mos Eisley and back. The last speeder to cross the finish line would be the winner. Both men realised that this could be a very long race and so went to seek the advice of Obi Wan Kenobi who lived atop a quiet hill beyond the Dune Sea.
Obi Wan said four simple words to the two men, who then left Obi Wan's home confident of a fair race.
What did Obi-Wan say to the two men?

Well it wouldn't matter if the second place never crossed the line. If there is only two people racing and one has already crossed the line then the other is that last to cross, even if he never makes it...If someone doesn't finish a race they are still last place.
Which means the guy to finish first does win.
As if the deviser of the contest who does not want a winner should be expected to allow a hand-waving interpretation like that? The text reads, quote: "The last speeder to cross the finish line would be the winner." If the second speeder does not finish, the purpose of the race as designed is fulfilled.
Of course, a Jedi master would spin off a simplistic answer that does not account for the motivation that set up the problem in the first place. He would be blindly trusting of both opponents, and would even reward flimsy logic that pretends to explain away how the simple plan might fail. Yoda would be proud.

They should switch speeders, so each man is riding the other's speeder. From there, each man should try to win the race, so his opponents' speeder finishes first and his own finishes last.
