What language is the word in ? I assume English ?

Is that all the letters, or can we add letters (if so, "tumpline")

by: rpggamergirlPosted on 2007-09-06 at 03:04:58ID: 19838782

That's all of the letters, and yeah it's in English.

by: Infinity08Posted on 2007-09-06 at 04:49:36ID: 19839218

The longest I find are 6 out of 7 letters, like "pitmen" and "limpet"

Maybe "templin", although that's a town or surname.

Those are the letters missing. Are we dealing with Scrabble, hehe? Can we add any vowels?

One word only?

by: MASQUERAIDPosted on 2007-09-06 at 11:25:14ID: 19842522

I think the clue here is in the title - it's not an anagram

by: rpggamergirlPosted on 2007-09-06 at 15:14:22ID: 19844111

Thanks for all the replies. I won't have the answer till maybe two weeks so keep guessing(I don't know the answer myself that's why I asked)
There's no other clue but those letters in lower case and it says Rebus puzzle:
It's probably something very easy or very stupid, I can't wait to see what it is, :)

e i l m n p t

by: WwysdomPosted on 2007-09-06 at 16:25:54ID: 19844436

The letters are arranged alphabetically, so maybe the answer will be something like
"a (anagram of e i l m n p t) in order"

I don't think the anagram might be restricted to one word, but the closest I could come up with were limp net, melt pin, pen milt?

"lie" back and ... ?

by: Infinity08Posted on 2007-09-07 at 00:30:55ID: 19845902

I think ozo might be right, and that the same letter can be used more than once (and then "implement" could be the solution) ... Is that so, rpggamergirl ?

by: fgandePosted on 2007-09-07 at 00:31:47ID: 19845903

I agree with ozo that "implement" would be the most logical solution to the puzzle, as long as you are allowed to use each character several times.

I cheated (used grep on a dictionary file) and found these three alternatives: impellent, implement and Pimentel (municipality in Italy).

re·bus
n., pl. -bus·es.
A representation of words in the form of pictures or symbols, often presented as a puzzle.

rebus
Enigmatical representation of a name, or graphic pun on the name of a person connected with a building, usually in the carved ornamentation, as in the Alcock Chantry Chapel in Ely Cathedral, Cambs. (14881501), with its many representations of cockerels.

Example:

all
board

answer, "all above board"

cut and paste it incorrectly though and you would have:

Puzzle:
all board

Answer, "all beside board" which doesn't make sense.

So you can't present a rebus puzzle without the original graphic, need an URL to where you saw it posted. I supposed "Spaced out Letters" might be valid.

Aha,
http://school.discoveryeducation.com/brainboosters/wordplay/spacedoutletters.html

Perhaps filling each blank with a missing letter will give a valid phrase but that's not a Rebus Puzzle.

>>Is that so, rpggamergirl ?<<
Could be, I don't really know sorry.

>>Perhaps filling each blank with a missing letter will give a valid phrase but that's not a Rebus Puzzle.<<
Whether it's a Rebus puzzle or not, I did not want to leave anything out and that's what it said. When this puzzle was handed to me, it was a one whole page along with 14 other puzzles(some in diagrams) and it was Titled "Rebus Puzzle" and this is the only one that I wasn't sure of, which I just answered "alphabetical Templin"
Unfortunately I won't get the answer till the end of this term.

The other puzzles were very obvious like the below "3 blind mice":

MCE

"Head over Heels":

HEELS

"extended family":

"Too intense":

         10

10      2       10

"No one to blame":

1.
2. blame
3. blame

"one in a million":

"out to lunch":

Will come back to this but what sticks out is that the letters are spaced out..

U missing from a spaced out tumpline

But it does not make sense as the order of the letters can not be random in a rebus and any anagram would suggest just that...

by: jayneePosted on 2007-09-21 at 12:18:30ID: 19938384

Well, they can be random if that is implied in the answer (eg "around" is a word in the phrase which is the answer), but I still can't see it, I confess.  "Missing u around tumpline" just doesn't cut it : )

by: RobinDPosted on 2007-10-15 at 00:56:17ID: 20076496

I hope you get the answer soon.

My offer:
knife = 'cutting implement'

by: rpggamergirlPosted on 2007-10-15 at 02:12:16ID: 20076656

I'm sorry that it's taking long to get the results.
Hopefully they'll hand it to us soon.

I can't wait to know the answer myself, :)

by: captainreissPosted on 2007-10-15 at 03:44:30ID: 20076918

Oh yes, nearly forgot this one.

Limp ten?

But RobinD sounds very close bar the 2 letters...

by: pedalheadPosted on 2007-10-24 at 13:49:20ID: 20142812

Can the author confirm that the first six letters are suppposed to be bold and the 't' is not?

by: MrXmasPosted on 2007-11-04 at 12:52:26ID: 20212198

rpggamergirl,

It sure looks to me like the first part of this starts with:

"Backwards Lie In Front of__________" or
"Lie Back Beside__________"

or something along those lines.  I just can't tease out the second part of this.  Have you gotten a solution yet that you can share with us?

--MrXmas

I'm very sorry everyone, I'm sick of waiting for them they never got to me, so I just distributed the points to all who replied(hope I didn't miss anyone). I know it's not much at all, if only I can give you all big points I would, :)

Thanks to all of you, and sorry I still haven't gotten the answer from them.

Next time I post a puzzle, I'll make sure I know the answer, it'll be fun then.

by: Infinity08Posted on 2007-11-14 at 04:54:18ID: 20279420

Should you still find the answer, then it would be nice to post it here :) I'm curious ...

by: rpggamergirlPosted on 2007-11-14 at 05:15:11ID: 20279543

yeah I would, but I'm in the mode of giving up, they seem pretty useless. And you think, the fact that they are the highly spoken private school, but not everything they do mean something to them by the looks.

nah....it's late I'll do it tomorrow perhaps.

aegis, please refer to the coment above from MASQUERAID : 09/06/2007 - 07:25PM BST

"Tomorrow" never came... so here's my deepest apology.
Please forgive me...

The one who organized the puzzle competition is gone, I still don't know the answer(probably never will)
Thank you all for participating.

@RobinD:
It was always my intention to come back at the time ... but real-life got in the way, sorry.

*Maybe the asker is just a 'scatter-brain' and that person from the school is a twit*

by: RobinDPosted on 2009-04-02 at 17:17:54ID: 24055792

>"Tomorrow" never came

lol, I googled it yesterday and all the results pointed exactly to here.

I was actually commenting that it was rather an old thread to be taking a guess at.

No need to apologise, I know you meant well :7)

by: captainreissPosted on 2009-04-03 at 01:23:56ID: 24057676

>>The one who organized the puzzle competition is gone

LOL, has he/she no heart? There are people here waiting for years....

Good one shame there is no solution, but I guess if the might of EE cannot solve it maybe it is after all the question that results in the only answer: 42
