YASU is a utility (Yet Another SecuROM Utility) which is designed to disable SecuROMs blacklisting of virtual drive UDI's, it works in much the same way that Daemon's Stealth does but covers a greater range of UDI's and uses a rootkit to hook in before the SecuROM check.
This means it could be potentially unsafe from a security point of view on your PC as like many rootkits it is given enhanced administrator rights to your entire system.
Because YASU's sole purpose is to bypass the copy protection of SecuROM games going into detail may conflict with the membership agreement on EE regarding Hacks and Cracks - so I'm limiting my answer to just the points you are asking about.
