How to play Age of Mythology on a mac without the disk?

Well I have the legal Age of Mythology on my mac and I have seen friends click on the icon for AOM and then have a message that says please insert disk and there is a little picture of a disk in the corner where they click and then the game starts. Well when I did that I got and error message saying could not find splash resources. So I found the downloaded picture that is shown when you start the game and put it on my desktop where the game was. Now when I do that the game starts for a second and then it says it unexpectedly quit. What do I do? Could you please me links etc. that are Mac friendly.

Which version of the game & OSX are you running?

It didn't work. Whenever I download stuff like that and try to open it I get an error message saying Sorry stuffit expander will not work without the Stuffit Engine. Please reinstall from the original installer. I was going to download the version you are talking about but when it said locate Age of Mythology on your computer to install I could only find the folder of Age of Mythology and it wouldn't take that because it had to be something inside the folder but there was nothing available to choose for that. So I couldn't download it. I  had gotten that download from the apple website. By the way this is not a common mistake of the computer. I was trying to play without the disk. I have seen it done before but on a laptop. I'm playing on the new desktop mac.

I have version 10.5.4 OSX And I think I only have 1.0 on AOM

With a Mac, I believe you can use Disk Utility. What you want to do is use your CD burning software to create an image of the AOM CD onto your hard drive. Then you can load the image with Disk Utility where it will show up as another CD drive. I'm not sure if this will work as I don't have a Mac, but its worth a try.

Well a disk image is indeed all which is needed, sometimes, but it depends on the copy protection scheme of the disc - Toast (which costs a great deal more than apple's bundled (and thus free) Disk Utility, but more versatile) is also able to make disk images from cds and to my experience where one fails the other might work.

The only other viable solution is to search for cd-cracks for the game, there tends to be plenty available, but this will alter the program it's used on, which sometimes will make it more of a hassle to update.

As far as the other things you mentioned that you seem to have problems with:

Stuffit expander: remove the stuffit you have on your computer and download a new one from http://my.smithmicro.com/mac/stuffit/index.html - the free expander is all that you will need.

Those guys are right.
Buif this is the original Age of Mythology, then u dont have a problem.
The disk utility should not have a problem with it.
