Thanks for this, I'll give it a try when I get home later :o)
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI have purchased Counter Strike Source as there are no apparent issues with my notebook's specification (after running a check on srtest.com with regards to whether it could handle HL2, met all the recommended specs).
After installing and updating via Steam all attempts to play the game have failed before even reaching the main menu.
After prompting it to launch, I see a message box stating that I'm connecting to my Steam account followed by a "Steam Fatal Error" message box saying "Fatal Error: Failed to load platform modules".
Can anyone shed some clarity as to what remedial action I can perform.

With the step by step instructions.
As you are making a change though minor to the registry it maybe worth while creating a restore point in case something goes amiss:
http://support.microsoft.c
You can try the basics, which are restarting STEAM and then trying to re-launch the game.
Also, your installation may have been faulty, believe it or not many people have had bad downloads via STEAM. You may want to try uninstalling it and re-installing it.
Also, does it say the file it's missing? (In example: launcher.dll), if not, browse to it via the Program Files, go to STEAM, then steamapps, then your STEAM username, half life 2, and then try to run hl2 from that file, it gives you a specific error on what could not load.
For example, say it cannot load "libraryhl2.dll", you may google search "libraryhl2.dll download" and find an appropriate download, and put it in your HL2 folder.
If you cannot find where to get the download from, do the steps above and just post what is having an error, and I'll find the appropriate download link.
Good luck!
