I am attempting to play Age of Empires II: Conquerors over Hamachi. I have been trying literally all day to get this to work and I am completely stumped. I have installed Hamachi, I am in a network with the friend I wish to play with, and I can chat with him and check his ping. The problem is, when one of us goes into AOE and creates a multiplayer game, when the other person searches for their game it either doesnt show up or if it does show up, the game tries to connect, but eventually you get an error message saying you are unable to join the game. I have tried literally everything I can find on the Hamachi forums in about every combination imaginable, but nothing works. We have gotten one game to start, but when we tried it again with the same settings it didnt work! I would appreciate help from anyone who is experienced with Hamachi. I will be online a lot and will be able to respond to questions or to give information you need. I really want this to work and it is so frustrating how complicated this has turned out to be.
it could be a firewall problem. try disabling all firewalls on both systems and try. if it works then you know something is being blocked within your firewall. if you have Norton or mcafee installed they probably have thier own firewall as well. make sure those are off and the built in windows firewall is off.
if the firewall is the problem make sure to enable or allow access to hamachi and AOE.
make sure you have the same game version installed on both computers.
also if this program uses P2P (peer-to-peer) then you have to enable that feature in the router.
The firewall is not the problem. We just checked again to make sure by turning them off and it was the same story. We have enabled access to hamachi and AOE.
We both have the same game version as well. To my knowledge AOE doesnt use P2P.
I have linksys BEFSR81 v3 and he has linksys
We have also been trying to connect using port forwarding, but we are getting the same results both with and without port forwarding. Hamachi has gotten us the closest. At the moment, if he creates a game I can find it, but I am unable to join. If I create a game, he cant see the game at all.
In the multiplayer menu you can find a game by either searching for a lan game by selecting Local (Lan) TCP/IP Connection (the game searches automatically) or you can choose Internet TCP/IP Connection for DirectPlay, in which you type in the IP address and it searches for a match. On my desktop I do not see his game in the Local Connection, but I can find it under Internet Connection. For kicks I tried this with my laptop as well (which is a part of our Hamachi network), and with the laptop I can find his game both in the Local Connection and the internet connection, but I still cant connect.
I cant get port forwarding to work either. I follow the steps exactly, but we still have the same problems. I know that some people have gotten it to work, but I have not been able to. I know it is possible to play AOE over Hamachi, but I still need assistance in figuring this out.
I got it to work for the first time then it has stopped working for me
what me and my friend did was disable firewalls connected bot the machine via hamachi in the router gave the ip of the machine to be in DMZ and had hamachi with network priority high seached for the gave over internet using my friends ip and was able to join his game
but the very steps mentioned above has stopped working for me... it wierd..
Here is a possible solution: SYMPTOMS When you try to host an Internet multiplayer game of Microsoft Age of Empires II Expansion: The Conquerors, other players may be unable to join the game.
CAUSE This behavior may occur if more than one network interface card is installed in your computer. When you click IP Address on the Multiplayer Game screen in Age of Empires II Expansion: The Conquerors, the game may report an incorrect Internet Protocol (IP) address.
RESOLUTION If your guest players are unable to use this IP address to connect to your game, use the IP Configuration tool included with Microsoft Windows to determine the IP address for the network interface card that you want to use for the game.
To do this, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, and then click Run. 2. In the Open box, type winipcfg, and then click OK. 3. In the unlabeled box, click the network interface card that you want to use to host the game.
Note If you want to use a dial-up Internet connection to host the game, click PPP Adapter. 4. In the IP Address box, note the IP address for the network interface card, and then click OK. 5. Provide the IP address that you noted in step 4 to your guest players. The guest players should now be able to connect to the game that you are hosting.
