There is NO SPAWNING FOR BROOD WAR.
The spawn feature is only available in the original StarCraft game.
If you want to play Brood War on your LAN with only one disk, you are going to have to do these steps on EVERY comp. Just start on one comp and work your way around the LAN:
1: Install the FULL version of StarCraft (you will not need different CD-Keys unless all the comps are going to play on b.net as well as your LAN).
2: Install StarCraft: Brood War on top of the StarCraft install (you can not intall BW unless you have the full version of SC installed anyways).
3. Install whatever Patch you would like to use on your LAN (but whatever version it is, you will have to use the same version on each comp. I recommend you install the 1.07 patch available here: PC - http://ftp.blizzard.com/pu
4. Use a 'CD Crack' to enable the game to run without the CD in. Basically a Game/CD Crack will just make the program assume the CD is in and continue loading (NOTE: Game/CD Cracks that use reverse engineering or the process of disassembling the coding and re-using the code to make the Crack ARE ILLEGAL. Game/CD Cracks that change the byte patterns are not illegal, but be careful). You will not have any of the music while playing Brood War though, just the background music you can turn off/on by pressing ctrl+m.
www.megagames.com is one borderline site that you can obtain Game/CD Cracks.
You can try:
http://www.megagames.com/c
or
http://www.megagames.com/c
Once again SOME GAME/CD CRACKS ARE ILLEGAL, be very careful in what you do/use. A better option would be to have your friends bring their BW CDs with them when you are going to play.

There is spawning on Brood War just like on the original. I play on a LAN as well but with disks so I haven't tried it to be sure how many can play without them.
