Would I have enough RAM?

Hello!
Recently I upgraded my PC from 512 MB to 1,5 GB of DDR400 RAM.
I want to play Crysis eventually, right now I only have demo.
I have AMD Athlon64 +3000 and my video card is crappy...its Inno 3D GeForce 6600 256 MB of DDR2 RAM, 64 bit. I turned off page file in XP.
So I tried to play Crysis on Low and on 800x600 resolution and I got about 12 fps -as an average. Not playable, but I have a clue about the game though...
I don't have anything , except for AVG AV and AdAware in a background.
I noticed that Crysis need alltogether about 1,4 GB of RAM. And those idiots at the store aren't ready to accept the memory module back. They say its already not new.
I got couple of times "Memory Low" Windows error messages.
BUT...once I would buy a more decent v. card, there would be AT LEAST 512 MB of RAM on it...So do you think that those extra 256 MB of video memory would make it Windows use LESS regular RAM for running the game? Or should I go with at least 1 GB v. memory in my case?
