Burnout paradise lan play question

Is there a way to play Multiplayer LAN play? I am new to games so please if possible, attaching screen shots would be appreciated. I tried but ended up with a lot of confusion.

no LAN play. You have to log onto the Paradise City servers in order to locate and invite friends (i.e. internet connection).

Burnout Paradise is unfortunately advertised as having a LAN multiplayer mode.  It even says so on the box!

EA say there's no problem in telling customers that's the case but until you open the box you won't know that "LAN multiplayer" actually means each player on the LAN needs a separate Internet connection and the "host" player needs to set up an online "room" for each of them to join in order to connect.  So actually it's online play ("PartyMode")  or single player only :(
