I have a Linksys BEFSX41 4-port router. I have 1PC and 2 playstations connected to it and I keep losing my connection when I play online games on the PS2s. The internet connection to the computer seems to be fine. I've tried switching all the ethernet cables around, and installing new firmware with the same result. What else should I try?
I stopped using Linksys routers specifically because of the problems and headaches associated with poor reliability. the upside of linksys routers is they are very easy to manage.
I've moved away from needing a linksys when I got Verizon Fios which came with very reliable router which is just as easy to manage and supports both WEP and WPA encryption.
I'd suggest a different.
But the problem could be a number of things...
-Router -Cable/DSL modem -ISP Service (their hardware/software/lines)
With your router do you have DHCP setup? Also is your MTU set to 1500 or max? Also understand when playing online, the problem may not be completely yours. There may be someone you are connecting to, or trying to connect to with modem/router/isp issues as well. Also on your computer do you have any type of Limewire/Bittorrent software that is running that could be taking away from your bandwidth? You 2 Playstations are they setup via DHCP or manual IPs? Are there any types of conflicting addresses? Does your connection on your playstations work fine if your PC is off? Meaning is there a virus/spyware or anything taking up your bandwidth?
