I know this is question is closed, but just so everyone knows you don't need a modchip, just get a utopia boot cd, search for it on Kazaa, etc. it will let you play CDRs, etc.
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI have heard that currently no Dream Cast Mod Chip allows you to play CD backups of games. I've been told that the DC modchips out on the market right now only offer an override to the geographic lockout code. Is this true or is it just a disclaimer in order to prevent their site from catching heat from SEGA? Would definitely appreciate some clarification...

This is true.
You simply can't backup dreamcast games on your cd's because the dreamcast reads GD-Roms (which are quite larger and ... surprise ... the actual game is on a place on the gd which you can't copy).
btw.. noone except sega is able to produce gd-roms :)
If you want to play import games just go ahead and buy a modchip.. I haven't had any problems with it (e.g. no game refused to run afterwards).
