Thank you for the detailed and thorough reply :o) This is what I needed to confirm. Now it will be a question of not mixing up pairs when attaching to terminals on the wall jack :o)

Browse All TopicsI would like to connect my GameCube console to my computer. I know that for this I would need a crossover cable. Will the following configuration work:
- 2nd NIC card on my computer to the wall jack (straight though cable)
- Straight through cable from the wall jack in computer room to the wall jack in living room
- Cross-over cable from the wall jack in living room to the GameCube broad band adapter
Alternatively, can I do that with some kind of switch, ex. cable from computer to the switch, cable from console to the switch. What hardware would I require, considering that I am on a rather limited budget?

Crossover cable is not a special cable. Difference is below
RJ 45 Connectors and colored wires in CAT5 Cable
Crossover Cable Straight Cable
One End Other End One End Other end
1 3 1 1
2 6 2 2
3 1 3 3
4 4 4 4
5 5 5 5
6 2 6 6
7 7 7 7
8 8 8 8
Color pairs matches in both ends(RJ45 Connectors) of a straight cable. But crossover not.
