After applying the December update that allows streaming Divx from your PC by way of WMP11, I was able to stream MOST of the videos in my library. All of a sudden today I went to play a video and they all had preview of the video in the Media Window and a Red Circle with a line through it. Every one that I tried playing had the same problem and all came back with Status "Code 80-C00DF242" error. I have rebooted both and tried re-adding my library, no help.
The error you're getting is saying that the codec that those files were ripped in aren't supported. There's a useful forum topic http://www.360-hq.com/posts2628-highlightsupported.html+codec that shows what is and isn't supported but I'll post here anyway for easy reference:
Yes I understand that. But the problem is that the same videos that played on Saturday night, will no longer play. In fact NOTHING will play. Out of the 250 videos, and 7000 mp3's, dont you think SOMETHING would be in the correct format? Especially since it was in the correct format last weekend.
No harm in checking :) Anyway, it might be worth disconnecting your XBox from your PC (i.e. as the place to stream media from) and re-add it. Sounds a little silly but it's always worth a shot.
I wonder if "re-formatting" the Xbox would help? This way I could re-add the software update that enables Divx playback. Do you know how to accomplish this? Do you of any downfalls as a result?
e.g. Losing saved games, losing downloaded levels(Halo 3), etc, etc.
Are there methods of avoiding these potential problems?
I've always had constant issues streaming the "microsoft way". If you're open to change, look at Winamp Remote (or orb), or TVersity. Been streaming 100% ever since. You're also not reliant on the xbox to decode as when using one of the mentioned transcoders, it transcodes to WMA on the fly using your codecs installed on your computer.
Easy: XBOX 360 only supports streaming of WMV files (thier native format), to stream divx and avi you need to have on-the-fly encoding being performed on your computer. FFDSHOW is a codec suite that streas the non standard content into wmv on the fly. I would suggest installing this or if it worked originally i would assume it was installed and you need to reconfigure it. TVersity is a great solution to serve media to the 360, even supports youtube etc and compliments ffdshow perfectly.
DO NOT FORMAT the 360 you will lose saves and the problem is with the host not the player. Another thing to look at if you have windows vista. You can use the media centre function which is even better.
JDLoaner: I googled the error this time (imagine that), and a few sites mention the xbox will not play any version of divx prior to version 5. Perhaps you are confused about which ones played and now do not?
If I was you, I would go with TVersity or ORB which transcodes on the fly to WMV so you never have this issue again. With either of these, if your pc can play it, your xbox will play it.
Ross: FFDSHOW doesn't do any transcoding. It's just a collection of codecs to play different formats. TVersity does the transcoding. The newer TVersity is really great too, you can actually fast forward and rewind now :-)
