They are names for the different motherboard models  that are in the Xbox 360

You may see them referred to as CHIPSETS on some reports but a Chipset is integrated on a motherboard, so the proper term would be a motherboard change.

As far as release dates, from the above posted article and its all supposition at this point.

Don't know if there is a performance gain, I think the target was to get a cooler chipset to alleviate the overheating breakdowns they have been getting with the hotter chipsets.
