The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Is this a 360? You will need to install the spring update.

The harddisk will need to be formatted to fat32, you can then play wmv's h264 divx and xvids

yes i am refering to the 360 - this is a really important question for me as i am going to buy one tomorrow for the purpose of playing these video files through the xbox 360 ( the console part being the cherry on the top)

spring update - what is that, is it free and how would i get it

I ran some video through the xbox and its good.

Please remember its upscales the standard def movies (using hdmi or vga only), so wont be as good as true hd movie.

To get the best out of the xbox you need to get a vga cable or a hdmi cable (if memory serves you dont get either with the xbox, please check with the sales person).

i recommend you get a xbox with a hdmi port (arcade or premium, not the core package to be safe).

The xbox is noisy, especially when playing games (dvd drive runs fulll speed all the time, there are rumors this will be fixed in a future update).

When watching a movie off the hdd or usb hdd i only notice it during quite moments and i sit fairly close to the xbox.
Using a dvd disc is slightly louder then idle sound, but acceptable to me.

Sound is very good, i use a 5.1 surround system connected to the xbox optical audio and its great (again depends on the source too).

As for the spring update, all you need to do is plug the xbox in to the internet using an ethernet cable and it will update automatically.

As an 360 owner I'm happy and I cant wait to buy Grand Theft Auto IV, only xbox game to get a 10/10 at gamespot!!

I also what to clarify, this is a proper external hard drive i would be wanting to hook up, not one bought for the xbox / an xbox360 hard drive

You can use a external harddisk to play back movies, this was introduced with the spring update.

It needs to be formatted to fat32 and wont support avi movies over 4GBs.

The xbox now supports wmv, mpeg4, h264, divx and xvid.
