Your auto shutdown is probably on then. To disable it go to
System Settings > Console Settings > Startup and Shutdown > Auto-Off
When you get there Disable the Auto-off feature.

Browse All TopicsHi, I have some issues with the xbox while doing ftp. Basically, I can transfer files with no issues at all but when transferring large files over a long period (e.g 4-5 hrs),the xbox auto shutdowns itself for no apparent reason. I tried using unleash x and xbmc but both have the same issue. I made sure to check that the auto-shutdown is not turned on for either dash. My ftp client on my pc is flash xp. While transferring overnight large files, the xbox auto-shutdown while ftp and corrupted my hdd data which I have resorted to reformat it and restart. So, my qs is if anyone may know why the xbox does this or does it auto-shutdowns perhaps for long idle time, or maybe file transfer have reached a certain limit or perhaps the xbox itself have a file limitation to what can be transferred. Any help on clarifying this weird shutdown issue would be great. Thanks in advance

I would concur with the last commenter. While I don't remember if the original XBox had an auto-off feature (I don't think it did because I remember running mine for a week straight as a Unreal Championship server), any sign of a mod chip or modded BIOS should wipe that out. Ventilation or overheating would be the best thought as to why it's shutting down, or if there was some sort of inconsistency with the power plug that's causing it to short out.
Are you using the new "GFCI" style power cord or the old one?
Lots of good suggestions but how large are the file your transferring? There is a 4GB file limit with FAT32(default file system) but unless you mean large amount of smaller files you shouldn't have a need for leaving it on over night. I can transfer several games on to my xbox without having to have it on for more than 20mins or so.
Also similar to what sav said, I hosted modded custom games for halo 2 for weeks at a time so I doubt it had an auto-off feature. And if it did, I had it disabled. :)
Lastly how are you FTPing your xbox, just over your local router/switch correct? If your going over a dsl/cable connection its going to be much slower of course.
Sounds like you have a modchip...does your modchip have an autoshutdown feature? From what I recall, some modchips would let you into a programming / settings screen by holding a certain button combo during bootup. If yours supports this, go in there and check to see if it has an autoshutdown as well.
How new of a build are your dashboards? Old versions may not handle filenames correctly. If your dashboards are recently updated, then that is not likely.

If it shutdown and you needed to reformat, I don't think it was due to auto shutdown... They should both automatically rename any files that aren't compatible with FATX (provided the setting is enabled) and I'm guessing you're not transferring more than 4096 files to a single folder? There is a 4gb file-size limitation, and I'm unsure if it will automatically deny the transfer...any files larger than 4 gigs? Since you can transfer for such long periods, I'm guessing you already changed the max concurrent connections to 2 and disabled keep alive (or they may have fixed that by now). What versions are you using?
Perhaps try changing your ftp client to filezilla or cuteftp.
