MTU (Failed) Xbox 360 connected via ics

Tags: xbox, mtu, 360, failed, ics
Ok this is my situation
i am trying to connect to xbox live but whenever i test the connection it passes the ip and dns tests then fails at mtu. the error status code is
w: 0000 - 000B
x: 0000 - 000D
y: 0000 - 0000
z: 0000 - 0000

or if i alternate the mac address of my console to match that of my laptops 1st nic i get
w: 0000 - 000B
x: 0000 - 002D   (notice the '2' here)
y: 0000 - 0000
z: 0000 - 0000

i am trying to connect using ics through my laptop which has two nics one internal which is connected to my wall port (i am in halls/dorms at university and my receive my internet via this port). i have activated internet connection sharing on this connection (local area connetion 6 on my system) and i have my second nic which is an external usb 10/100 ethernet adapter connected to my xbox 360 (local area connection 7) via a crossover cable (which ive been made aware isnt required as the xbox 360 has 'auto-sensing'). the setup all seems correct but the xbox still fails at the mtu test, its requires an mtu of atleast 1364 and ive checked mine in command prompt by using the command ping -f -l 1472 10.48.255.10
(1472 being the highest i managed to use without any fragmentation) this should mean that my mtu is 1500 i believe which is more then required.

i am running windows xp pro sp2
these are my network settings

local area connection 6 (connected, shared)
ip address: 10.48.80.204
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
default gateway: 10.48.80.1
dns: 10.255.43.10

local area connection 7 (connected)
ip address: 192.168.0.3
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
default gateway: (left blank)
dns: 10.48.80.204 (ip from my isp in local area connection 6)

xbox 360 settings
ip address: 192.168.0.1
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 192.168.0.3 (ip address from local area connection 7)
primary and secondary dns servers: 192.168.0.3 (ip address from local area connection 7)

all settings have been inputted manually because of another problem ive had since moving here
i had to register my laptop on my university system by going to a specific website before i could access the internet. after my port in my room was activated i could still not access the internet or not even go to the website in which i registered my laptop. dhcp not long seemed to be working on my laptop all off a sudden and i had no idea why. i would also be grateful for any help on this problem aswell but this is not my main concern as i can access the internet fine on my laptop with my manual settings. im just trying to figure out what is up with this mtu issue, i have tried playing about with my mtu using programs such as dr tcp and tcp organizer but although the changes are visible in the registry they dont seem to have any effect on my system or connection. if i plug my xbox 360 straight into my room port and set it to automatic it fails at the first stagewhich is detecting ip address and if i set it to manual i get the same mtu issue but i was informed by my university that any consoles would have to be connected throught a computer using internet conection sharing.

i hope i have given enough information i dont know anything about bridging connections and dont know if it will make any different but any help will be apprieciated thank you in advance everybody.
