Hi

ROM = Read only memory

A ROM cartridge is a cartridge that you
put into a console such as the Gameboy.
These cartridges are read only (which means you cannot write to them), although some of them do come with extra RAM (Random access memory) on them. A software based ROM as the one you are talking about is a file that exists on your hard drive that contains all the information that was on the hardware based cartridge.

It is illegal to posses these software ROMS unless you own the original hardware cartridge. (One is allowed to make backups). You are also not allowed to distribute these ROMS without the express permission of the license holder of the product. Saying this people do still break the law and distribute said ROMS over the internet, I'm sure a search on yahoo.com would yield some interesting results. Being the author of games like these I do not encourage people to play games without paying for them since that would put people like me out of a job.

Hi

If you use no$gmb then press ESC and click on the utility menu and select the Gameshark codes option. You then enter your codes into the window that opens up.

I used no$gmb to help me develop Gameboy games since it will allow me to run the ROM I generate and see what it will potentially look like on the real thing. You can download no$gmb from http://www.emusphere.com/emulators/nintendo_game_boy.html

Also if you are interested in emulators for other systems then try the base URL http://www.emusphere.com/

You can get emulators for most of the older machines for which a lot of the ROMS are freely available and most of all they are legal.

Hope this helps

hey matth, where are you?

by: matthPosted on 2000-06-29 at 14:46:51ID: 3129910

What are the specs of the system you are running on eg?

1) CPU
2) Memory
3) HD size and free space
4) Operating System
5) Video card
6) Display resolution and color depth
7) Sound card

I think it is most likely the IRQ and IO addresses for your sound card not set in the software

ok, matth. i'm only 13, but i think these are the ones. i may not know for sure. #7, #5, #3, and maybe #6. like i said, i might not know...

by: matthPosted on 2000-06-29 at 15:47:02ID: 3130534

ok the first thing we need to do is determine your sound card settings or you can just skip straight to number 12 and hope that it works:

1. Right click on My Computer on the desktop and click properties.
2. Click on the device manager tab
3. Expand the branch called sound, video and game controllers
4. Double click on any of the drivers that sounds like its for you sound card
5. Another window will open up, click on the resources tab in the new window
6. Note down the number at the side of Interrupt Request
7. Then close the windows down that have just been opened
8. Goto start->programs->accessories->system tools->system information and click on it, this will launch microsofts system information tool
9. Click tools on the menu and select system configuration utility
10. Click on the Autoexec.bat tab
11. Click the New button

12. Type the following without the quotes, but replace the 5 with the number you noted down before
"set BLASTER=A220 I5 D1"
then press enter

13. Click OK
14. Windows will ask if it can restart, select Yes

Now try running no$gmb again

If you skipped straight to step 12 and it did not work then try changing I5 or I7 or I9 and trying again.

by: matthPosted on 2000-06-29 at 21:16:34ID: 3133490

Hi

Heres a better way of putting it:

1) What CPU do you have in your machine, is it intel, 386, 486, pentium1, 2 or 3, AMD, Cyrix and what speed?
2) How much Memory (RAM) do you have in your PC?
3) What is the size of your hard disk? and how much free space do you have left?
4) What Operating System system are you rinning Win95, Win98, Win NT, etc...?
5) What Video card do you have in your PC?
6) What Display resolution and color depth is your desktop set to?
7) What Sound card do you have in your machine?

Without this information for starters I cannot help you fix crash problems, I can only speculate (guess)

You should also be asking this as a nother question (In the windows 98 section maybe, or computers), so other experts will get a chance to help. You dont need to assign any points to the question if you have none left.

Hi

Don't forget that I do have a job to do and sometimes I am snowed under with work so sometimes I cannot respond as quickly (work comes first, since that pays the bills and clothes my kids). I will be free to look into this problem later this week, but at the moment my employers are nagging at me and want to see progress on the project I am working on.
