I have tried many Game boy emulators my self and the one that works for me is No$gmb. It runs almost all Game Boy ROM’s including Pokemon Gold.
It might run slow but if it does there is a little trick that I use to speed the games up.
1. First double click the executable file.
2. Next click on the options menu.
3. Scroll down and click on emulation setup.
4. Highlight Emulation Speed, LCD Refresh and press the right arrow until the option Double Speed appears.
5. Then start your game.
This is and address to a sight containing the emulators

THank you, But if you go to your pokegear on the game you will know that it never changed the time. The software these emulator are made for cant. I have heard of project to emulate the new GB but all failed..
SMYGB is one that emulats time but off by around 15 minutes.. It just runs way to slow on my 366

The Pokemon gold game has a "battery pack" used to emulate time while the game is off.
Because you are playing a rom, which only copies the data files to the computer, you obviously are not taking along the battery time chip. Thus, the game then looks to your computer to check for the time, but this does a bad job of it because it is a different type of chip (the bios and stuff)
It's either not going to work at all, or you get a 1 ghz computer. Or until someone makes an emulator which actively supports the time.
Well, considering that you are using an emulator on a machine much more capable of data manipulation than a game boy, why don't you simply make a save state and search for the time values in the game with a hex editor? Then use the hex editor to change the time to that which you desire. It may take a while to find, but it is better than nothing.
Have you tried VisualBoyAdvance. It emulates or the gb roms at 100% my computer. It emulates both Gb and GBA roms. Here's the link: http://planet.time.net.my/
Whoops! I forgot to add that if the emulator still runs slowly, get the SDL version here: http://vboy.emuhq.com/down
or try to
- set your PCs Display color depth to High Color - 16bit
- set Emulator Options > Video > x1
- set Emulator Options > Frame skipping > above 0
- set Emulator Options > Priority > Highest

I do not think you can run it on any of them if you don't really have it.
