I have done just about everything from removing all my mods (some are needed for me to play but I wanted to see the impact) to adjusting my WOW video options. Obviously ramping down all my video options helps but I don't see why I can not play with all the options at full tilt. I believe when I first installed WOW (which I believe was the second app I installed after MS Office) it ran fine and I never even concerned myself with frame rates. Now I can barely do BT Council because of the lag in AOE (a fight that needs spell detail turned way up). I am consistently seeing 6fps although some areas of the game I have seen up to 20fps.
Is there something that I should do? Is my only option to purchase a new video card? I know that is a quick easy solution but I was hoping that I can do something to correct something that has gone astray. I have even gone into my Task Manager and End'd processes on everything that looks rogue and that seems to help a bit but only by a few fps but with 2GB of RAM I would think I should not need to do that. I have also set the WOW.EXE to a high priority but that seems to do nothing except prompt me with a warning.
My buddies at the end of the street are on the same cable system as me and are not having any problems. I play in the evenings EST and just ran a couple speed tests at SpeakEasy. My PCs are connected to a Linksys firewall router and I believe that one of them is connected to the DMZ. This router is then connected to the cable modem. 2nd PC is directly connected to the router as well.
Main PC: 10-14mb download and 1.3-2mb upload (depending on location) << Main WOW PC (~1.5 years old)
2nd PC: Same as main << Secondary WOW PC but also has low fps and it is a much older PC (~4 years old)
Laptop: 2mb download and 5mb upload << T61 Thinkpad
I don't know why the large disparity in speeds on the laptop. If you need more information about my network configuration let me know and I will confirm the setup and post the details.
