Need help with Gabriel Knight 1!!!

I've just downloaded GK1 and I have a problem in day 9.
I'm in the caves and after using the snake rod on the snake tile in room 3 I'm moving towards room 7, but in room 6 the mummy gets me before I can do anything!The cursor doesn't even change to let me move!The mummy is right in front of the gate!I tried changing the speed from the options either to fast or to very slow but there is no change...I'm using win 98.Is there a cheat code to help me pass this point?Thanks
