Got a launch problem with Neverwinter Nights (NWN) on XP with Service Pack 2...
I had NWN installed on my Win98 machine, encountered no problems installing or running the game. I am now installing it on a laptop that is running a brand new install of XP SP2. After installation, I launch the app... the main menu appears, and I click "Play"... then the NWN eye logo appears, sort of as a mid-size splash screen.... and then that disappears and I'm back at my desktop. What SHOULD ahppen is that I get a Wizards of the Coast logo screen, then a couple other logo screens, then a title scene, etc.... But instead, the launch app simply closes, and the game doesn't actually start.
On a side note, during installation the wizard told me that the laptop's processor speed wasn't up to snuff for the game. NWN requires a Pentium II 450 MHZ, and recommends a Pentium III 800 MHz. The laptop has a Pentium 4, around 2.5 GHz!
So... can anyone help with the first issue (game launch just "ends" without actually launching), or provide some insight on the latter issue (NWN not recognizing that the computer actually exceeds the recommended stats)?
Thanks for the help.
