The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Problems connecting XP machine to Apple Airport Express wireless network

Asked by musicalmidget in Mac Airport Wireless Access Point, 802.11 Wireless Access Points, Wireless Local Area Network

I've recently setup a wireless home network using an Apple Airport Express base station.  There are several machines that can connect to the network at any given time, including two macs and upto four pcs.

I'm finding that one of the PCs is having difficulty connecting and staying connected to the network.  The computer frequently disconnects from the network, often within only a few minutes of connecting.  Sometimes when this happens it's difficult to reconnect again, in that I'll attempt to connect but as the machine attempts to connect the message "Waiting for the network" is displayed below the progress bar.  After some minutes of this, the progress window closes but the machine didn't manage to connect.  No error message is displayed.  On other occasions, I'm given the option of repairing the network connection, which sometimes gets me connected again.

I wondered if I might have a faulty wireless card, since that turned out to be the cause of a similar problem in a different machine not to long ago.  However, it appeared to be working fine recently when the PC was elsewhere and connected to a different network.  The signal strength generally seems to be at about 2 bars, but the iMac next to the problematic XP machine seems to be able to connect without problem, as does an XP laptop at the same location.

Any suggestions as to how to go about troubleshooting and/or fixing this problem would be most appreciated.Start Free Trial
