Question

Ricoh x64 drivers for MMC Host Controller and Memory Stick Host Controller-Hard to Find--Please help!

Asked by: flycomanche

Can not find x64 drivers for memory chips running with Vista 64 bit.  I have been to Dell; Ricoh; Drivers Guide; several services and they all can not fix.  This appears to be a difficult request.  The 32 bit Ricoh drivers work fine under Vista 32 bit but not under Vista 64 bit.  If anyone solves this one, they should get a bonus of another 500 points.  Thanks for you help, I know this will help others.  I am using a Dell Inspiron E1705/9400 which is about a year old and there were lots of these laptops sold with same chipset.

Thank You,
Michael

The Dell Inspiron E1705 http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2776 seems to have a Core Duo processor (Yonah), which is not 64-bit capable http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Core.  That processor does not support a 64-bit OS, which is why the 32-bit drivers work fine and the 64-bit ones don't.  Which processor do you have?

Thanks for quick reply!
T7600 2.16Ghz Duo Core is installed which is an upgrade.  All 64 bit devices loaded fine except for Ricoh.  The Ricoh x-card 64 bit installed which is one of the 3 Ricoh used on this machine.

Callandor,
The specs on CPU are: Geniueintel_EMT64T_Family6_Model_15

If there is a Ricoh x64 for MMC and Stick Host Controller that you know of it would not hurt to try.  Your time is appreciated.

Callandor,

So there I was day dreaming, looking at the blue sky with the green trees swaying back and forth, wondering where the answer to this puzzle was.  Then it hit me!  Ouuch!  The Dell M1710 is a hybird E1705.  I went to M1710 download section on Dell's website and you guessed it, the Ricoh drivers where there, and they worked nicely.  For those who need the same drivers here is the link: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/devices.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&SystemID=XPS_M1710&os=WV64&osl=EN

There are some other goodies at this link that might work for your x64 bit hopped up machine like mine.

Thanks Callandor for you help!!

Michael

Sounds good to me.  I am new at this exchange and value your guidance.  I just retired and love to work with computers and solving issues like the one discussed today.  I have been working on this 64 bit issue since RC1 was released.  I enjoy finding out how computers work and making software work arounds.  I see that there is a link to add this discussion to the Exchange.  If you feel this would help others let me know what to do.  I like sharing useful information so others might benefit, however I do not want to mislead anyone and waste there time.
Thanks again for your help and this wonderful site to assit folks in their pursuit of knowledge.

I just wanted to thank flycomanche for the idea of using another DELL driver to get a 64bit driver for the Ricoh Controller working under Vista x64. I am actually trying to get an Alienware M9700 working with Windows Vista x64 and Alienware is proving to be HORRIBLE with 64 bit support. Yeah, yeah the M9700 is an older machine but it does have a 64bit processor and although it has a 2GB cap it runs much smoother under a 64 bit OS, so this helped alot.

Anyway, if anyone else is trying to upgrade their M9700 then just know that you can use the M1710's Ricoh driver to get the drivers for your machine working under Vista x64. Good luck with the audio though because I am still searching for a working 64bit driver for the Soundmax Digital Audio...
