I am trying to compare three distinct processors to figure out which one is the best/fastest. I have three Desktop machines...all VERY similar except for the processors. The first machine has a E4400 Core 2 Duo Processor...the second is a E2200 Pentium Dual Core Processor...and the third is a Pentium D 920 Processor. I THOUGHT that the best processor would be the E4400, followed by the E2200, followed by the Pentium D 920. However, when I went to Intel's web site and did a processor comparison with all three, it appears that I am wrong...at least I think I am, hence my question :) Here is the link to the intel comparison of the three:
http://compare.intel.com/pcc/showchart.aspx?mmID=888210,890242,878543&familyID=1&culture=en-USIt looks as if the 920 process has a much higher Clock speed than the other two AND double the L2 cache of the E4400 Core 2 Duo. The E2200 only has 1MB of L2 cache, but it does have a higher clock speed than the Core 2 Duo. It looks like everything else is pretty much the same when comparing the processors. Generally, I had been under the impression that the order of Intel processors these days from slowest to fastes (or good to better) was Pentium 4, Pentium D, Pentium Dual Core, Core Duo, and Core 2 Duo. But when I compare these three processor, it just seems backwards. In fact, if I recall the price of each machine, I think the least expensive machine was the Pentium D, followed by the Pentium Dual Core and then the Core 2 Duo. I must be missing some sort of performance spec that Intel is not showing, or I guess the Pentium D might be the best choice among the three contenders.
Thanks for any additional information you can provide.
