The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. What should I replace first?

Somewhere around 4 years ago I built myself a computer. Since this time, I have had a downward spiral of problems that has lead to the supposed failure of all the components.... The first indication of something amiss occured when my computer would randomly discontinue feeding output to my monitor (i.e. the screen would be black). The PC was not asleep and the hard drive light would be blinking as normal. Resetting the computer or reseating the video card would usually bring back my display within 2-3 attempts. Then came the more annoying random blue screens failing out with page_fault errors. Once again 2-3 soft resets or killing the power and restarting would usually bring it back up again. I've replaced the RAM. Shortly, after this my computer would sound like a vacuum cleaner when I turned it on. I noted that it would restart itself randomly. I replaced the CPU fan and reseated the others. One of the case fans was making the noise... After doing this, the computer won't even past post. The harddrive light stays on. Where to start with this mess.... Is it possible to salvage any piece of this computer?Start Free Trial
