I'm looking for a standalone bootable utility that will simultaneously exercise all cores of a multi core processor, specifically the Intel i7. The idea is to generate as much processor heat as possible, and see how well or poorly the thermal solution works.
Something like calculating pi, but simultaneously on all processor cores. Since the i7 has HyperThreading, the number of cores will appear to be 8 rather than 4.
Thank you in advance for your guidance.

Prime95 is indeed the best thing I have found for this job. Make sure that you are monitoring your temps while running it because it WILL heat up. I found myself with uncomfortable temps with my i7 system when I had a stock heatsink (as in 70C+). Aftermarket heatsinks are a great investment for these CPUs.
CPU-Z and SpeedFan are a couple of good free temperature monitors.
Have fun,
Sheik

I really don't see anything that matches both requirements. You might have to make your own.

Maybe you can install Wprime on the Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset cd
http://www.microsoft.com/d
Download and run it. Burn the erd50.iso it makes to a CD (should be in c:\Program Files\Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset)
Boot the CD and you have a bunch of tools to use.
Wprime

You can also look at doing it with these. Most already have utilities on them that might do it:
BartPE

Ultimate Boot CD for Windows

Ultimate Boot CD

There are also the Linux Live CDs that you could use.
