When using VirtualBox or Virtual PC, do you think that increase in performance would overcome the lack of hardware-assisted virtualization?

Also, how much of a difference will 25W vs 35W make on battery life?

Neither one of the 2 cpu's support virtualization. Depending on the laptops you are looking here is a list of core 2 duo mobile processor that support VT.

I don't think AMD has any laptop cpus that support virtualization.
Be cautious in searching Intel's Processor Spec finder ==> the list jamietoner posted INCLUDES the P7350 ... although it does NOT show VT support on its specification page.
Interestingly, however, Intel's site notes the P7000 series CPU's DO have VT support !!
A bit more research is clearly warranted before making a purchase decision if you need hardware virtualization support.
I'd choose a CPU that doesn't have any ambiguity in the specs.
FYI, if you plan to upgrade to Windows 7, the new version of Virtual PC REQUIRES hardware virtualization support. That may/may not be a factor for you -- just something you should be aware of.

On passmark the p7350 scores 1367 and the rm-74 scores 1046, so the p7350 is faster and at 25w will offer a few more minutes of battery life. t/cpu_list .php
