Hyper-v and virtual pc are two different products. Are you going to run Windows 2008 server on Virtual PC? What is your goal with virtual PC?

so you are going to install Windows 7 on virtual PC? As long as you have enough ram to run both machines you should not have a problem installing it.

by: myselfrandhawaPosted on 2009-09-05 at 23:54:34ID: 25268945

No! You are misunderstanding me. I have windows 7 and read this what i am trying to do

That is very cool. I don't think you will have an issue. Go ahead and install virtual PC.

If it's not an option in the bios then it's possible compaq has locked the option, which is odd but not unheard of as most OEM's limit their bioses. But according to a simliar post(same problem different system) on hp's forum the option should be under security options-> os protection.

i found this line:

All AMD notebooks with the mobile processor "AMD Turion 64 X2" have AMD Virtualization (SVM), but do not advertise it. Use this link to find laptops that are being sold with the "AMD Turion 64 X2" processor: http://shop.amd.com/us-en/platforms/2.aspx

but mine is:
AMD 64 Athlon X2

by: jamietonerPosted on 2009-09-06 at 08:29:23ID: 25270306

When you enter the bios( either f2 or del key) go to the security options then in the security options section choose os protection and in there you should have the option to enable virtualization.

When you try to install virtual PC does it let you install or does it always promt you to test? Is it possible to install without running the test? I am going to try it on my old 32bit laptop later today so I can see what its asking for. What version of VPC are you installing?

by: jamietonerPosted on 2009-09-06 at 10:56:17ID: 25270837

Murgroup, the version of vpc that support xp mode in windows 7 requires hardware virtualization support.

by: myselfrandhawaPosted on 2009-09-06 at 11:39:45ID: 25270985

well i will be installing the latest

The Athlon TK series do NOT appear to support virtualization: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_Turion_microprocessors

by: myselfrandhawaPosted on 2009-09-08 at 07:11:56ID: 25282029

by: CallandorPosted on 2009-09-08 at 08:49:42ID: 25283147

Specifically, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_AMD_Processors says the Tyler family of cpus (what you have) does NOT support AMD-V.  It shows that some other K8's do and some don't.  Saying you have an "AMD 64 Athlon X2" doesn't mean you don't have a TK-53 (Tyler family); that's what a Compaq v3611au Laptop has.

by: myselfrandhawaPosted on 2009-09-08 at 08:56:45ID: 25283215

so u saying i do have support for this and that is FINAL

by: CallandorPosted on 2009-09-08 at 09:40:39ID: 25283651

I am saying you don't have support for AMD-V, and yes, that's final.

by: CallandorPosted on 2009-09-08 at 09:53:15ID: 25283771

Let me modify that - download, install and run CPU-Z (http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php), and if it says you have a TK-53 and it doesn't have AMD-V, then that's final.

by: myselfrandhawaPosted on 2009-09-08 at 10:15:47ID: 25284012

ok i made a screenshot and here what i get:

here it is

by: CallandorPosted on 2009-09-08 at 11:31:49ID: 25284679

You've got a TK-55, which is a Tyler family processor in the same situation as the TK-53 - no AMD-V.
