There is no reason why a Xeon would not run XP - it is essentially the same cpu as a desktop version, except it supports multiple processors and may have more cache - it has the same instruction set. The only reason server OS'es are typically associated with Xeons is that they are often used in servers that need to be up 24/7, so a stable OS is necessary. That is one of the things you give up in going to XP, as well as ability to use large amounts of RAM.
>What do you think about virtualizing a server?
They're using XP to get around licensing. The product is designed to connect hundreds of users in a single XP installation. There's more than one name/company out there: ThinPoint and others.
1. Hack to XP's remote desktop connection, removing the limitation on concurrent sessions.
2. Label it a "terminal server".
3. Tell customers it up to them to buy the proper quantity of XP desktop licenses.
4. Wink several times.
Terminal Server 2003 with TS-CALs should be able to handle a few hundred users, no problem. But that requires paid licenses.
But the original question was simply whether XP will run. Yes.

What is your need for XP on a server? You can always virtualize using VMware ESXi. It is a free, easy solution to install and can run multiple operating systems.
