The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

How to get sleeping or hibernating computer to reboot?

Asked by bcarolewr in Outlook Groupware Software, Computer CPU Processors, Personal Computers

Tags: , , , , , ,

The user reported that he had a browser (firefox) and Outlook open when he left his office today.
When he returned 30 minutes later, the monitor was inactive (yellow light) and the computer was "off" -- except that the little light on the DELL power button was blinking yellow.

It reminded me of a hibernation or sleep mode (We do not use hibernation or sleep mode).

He reports that did not put it in hibernation or sleep mode (I don't think he knows how).

The keyboard and mouse were both unresponsive.  No response whatsoever.

ALT+CTL+DEL had NO effect.

The CPU was plugged into a power strip (as was the monitor and printer...the power strip did have power). When the power strip was turned off, it took about 8-10 seconds for the yellow blinking light to go out.

When the power strip was turned back on, the same situation ensued... I had a yellow blinking light on the start button;  the monitor flashed with the DELL logo, then went blank with a yellow light.

I tried unplugging the CPU, plugging it into the wall, no change.

The CD/DVD drawer will not open, so I cannot try booting from the CD.

I cannot try system restore because nothing happens.

This user happens to be the business owner... it will be a bad day at work tomorrow.

What can I try?

Thanks
