Calibrating / adjusting CPU temperature readings?

Hi gang,

I have an HP Media Center PC with an Asus P5LP-LE motherboard.  I had a power supply fail last week and replaced it.  The machine works fine now, but the CPU and case fans have been going near full speed since the install when they should be fairly quiet.  Both my BIOS and these software monitors (pictured below) are showing my CPU temp going between 72C and 90C depending on load, which seem a bit excessive.

I've reset and updated the BIOS, and reattached the CPU heat sink with new thermal compound but neither helped.  The air coming out the back is cool, as is the heat sink, which makes me think it's a problem with the CPU sensor just wildly exaggerating the actual temp.

Preferring to not simply slow down the fans with SpeedFan, I've searched for a method to either repair or recalibrate the sensor, or dial down the temp readings, but I can't find anything.  

Anyone have any ideas before I enter HP support hell?
