The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Laptop memory upgrade problems

Asked by Dawaffleman in Computer Memory (RAM), Miscellaneous Hardware, PC Laptops

I recently bought some new memory in the hopes of upgrading my old system.  I have a Thinkpad T20  pIII  650mhz  with 256mb of ram.  I bought this new memory http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820159405
which is 2x256mb...When it arrived I installed it (two sticks) and powered her up and no post, no beeps, just the power on indicator and a blank screen.  I fiddled with combinations of the old and new sticks. With an old 128 mb stick and a new 256mb stick together it would POST fine and then go to the starting up windows progress bar...at the end of that bar it would restart and go back to the post.  My guess is the ram is good if it can get through the post right?  But I can't start windows with one of the new sticks in and I can't start anything with both in.  I Flashed the bios--didnt solve the problem.  Is this the wrong type of memory?  I tried to match them as perfectly as I could, 144 pin SO-DIMM  non ecc  non buf  cl3 pc133  (i only need pc100 tho) ....what else am I missing here??  If I return this how can I be sure to get the correct ram the next time?Start Free Trial
