4 gb Memory upgrade - What's better: 1 gb x 4 slots or 2 gb x 2 slots

Asked by djkontroll in Computer Memory (RAM), Hardware Components

I am going to upgrade my workstation with 4 gb of ram.  I have 4 slots currently full with 512mb DDR2 PC2 5300 for a total of 2 gb of ram.  I am going to install 4 GB OF DDR2 PC2 6400.

in terms of performance is it better to install 4 - 1 gb modules or 2 - 2 gb modules?
