The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Looking for FB-DIMM with flush AMB Chip

Asked by phasevar in Computer Memory (RAM), Computer Fans and Cooling

I'm putting together a Xeon server and am running into some problems with memory cooling.  I have 16 2gb modules in the system with the default heat spreaders but they're getting way too warm; 90 degrees C.

So I bought a set of Thermaltake CL-R0026 memory coolers, one per module to try and keep the memory cool.  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835106098

My current problem is that the AMB chip on the FB-DIMM modules sticks out further than the memory chips on one side of the module.

The modules I bought are here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145170&Tpk=CM72FB2048-667

I'm thinking about replacing the memory modules if I can find some that have a AMB chip that sits flush with the memory chips so that the Thermaltake coolers will fit correctly.

I'm looking for suggestions on where to look for such modules.  Manufactures and part numbers would be highly helpful.  I can't tell which modules would work by looking at the photos on my regular vendor sites.

I do realize there are fan based cooler options which could work for me, but I'm trying to stay away from fans.  My case has several high capacity 120mm fans for overall system airflow and I don't want to introduce more fans to potentially break so I'm trying to go with a passive cooling option.Start Free Trial
