Upgrade my computer

Hi,

I have an old computer which is still working but it's getting rather slower when opening up applications. How can I upgrade my computer to increase its performance. I'm thinking of buying RAM. My existing RAM is 128MB. I do not know what kind of RAM to buy please advise.
