Is it possible that adding 2gb to a Windows XP PC could slow it down?

Hi,
I've recently upgraded some clients from 512mb or 756mb to 2GB of ram. All using Windows XP (one home one Pro)

However, the users in both cases are complaining that the computer seems slower to boot and in one case (which is connected with an exchange server ) they are complaing they seem to be getting more egg timers waiting for emails to open etc.

Is it possible that more memory could slow a PC down?
