1Rx8 means the it is Single Rank with an 8 bit data width. 2Rx8 means it is Dual Ranked with an 8 byte data width. A Rank is a group of DRAM Chips which is connected to a single Chip-Select. Typically, you would have one Rank per side of the DIMM. If it has DRAM chips on both sides, it would be dual ranked.
