Memory (RAM) problem. Individual sticks work, but won't work together

This is my problem. I have a motherboard with four slots for memory (DDR). The computer will freeze up before the system loads, both Windows and Ubuntu. I used memtest86, but it wouldn't even complete the test because it would freeze.

So I went ahead and ran the system with just one stick. It worked fine. Then I switched the stick one by one until I tested all four. All of them work. I tried putting one stick in one slot and then moving it to the other slots. It worked fine.

The problem is when I put all four sticks together. I can put just three in any of the slots, the other doesn't matter and it works. It's just when I use all four sticks of RAM that the computer freezes.

Any idea why this is happening?

P.S. The system I had running on this computer was Windows XP Pro. The system also crashed. I don't know if this problem with the RAM was because the system crashed or if the system crashed before of this problem with the RAM. I'm going to assume the problem is the motherboard.
