The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. Extraordinary memory usage is being caused by what?

I am not an Expert by any means, but I built a PC 3 years ago that seems to run really well except for one thing.  It has 1.52 GB of ddr400 Memory, but about  5 days a week, only 500mb OR LESS are available even after I use my routine mem boosters.  It will not go any higher than that.  Only less.  Sometimes as low as 50-100 mb of Free Ram is available to me. Sometimes a reboot helps.  Other than that, the PC performs admirably at stock settings.

The PC has Always done this, from day one, but it is doing it more often now. It is an XP machine but uses memory like a Vista OS does, and maybe a tad worse.  To summarize, one Gig  of memory is NOT enough for this  XP PC.  Without a doubt.  Can anyone guess Why?  Right now at perfectly idle(Besides EE@IE8), I have 545 MB RAM available.

THE QUESTION IS:  What could be sucking up so much of the available memory so far above the normal usage?

The system Is an ASRock  Upgrade MB, AMD Athlon64 3000 (socket 754) CPU@2.0ghz., not overclocked.  It runs Windows XP Professional SP3.
