How do I recover from a "0x77c47e9f" referenced memory at "0x00000041"

Asked by bedshed in Computer Memory (RAM), Microsoft Operating Systems, Microsoft Hardware

Myself and my girlfriend both have Gateway MX3050b Notebooks. Both come with a standard 256Mb of RAM (upgradeable up to 1Gb of 200 Pin SO DIMM DDR2700 333MHz RAM).

I ordered the RAM upgrade. Installed in one no problem at all. Installed in the other which appeared to be problem free at first but then crashed, and on re-start go the above message followed by automatic shut-down.

I've tried re-intalling, and even re-starting after removing the new RAM (relying back to the old (re-installed 256Mb of RAM) but am just getting the same message.

How can I recover the situation without losing all file content on the laptop? I have not idea what to do apart from attempting to re-install the RAM (which I've now tried many times!!).

The RAM and Comp is seen at the below links:

Any help would be hugely appreciated.
