I've got some spare components sitting around some of them higher end (or were when I purchased them). I don't think it would take much to put the HTPC together. Here is what I what I have....
Antec SmartPower 2.0 SP-500 ATX12V 500W Power Supply
CORSAIR XMS 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel
ATI All-In-Wonder X800 XT 100-714200 256MB GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card
Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS sound card (and speakers)
Thinking this is all I will need
1. Mobo - BIOSTAR NF325-A7 Socket 754 NVIDIA nForce3 250 ATX AMD Motherboard, I'm still an AMD guy and since I'm just doing this to use up the spare parts I'll go with a less expensive AMD
2. Case - BIOSTAR NF325-A7 Socket 754 NVIDIA nForce3 250 ATX AMD Motherboard but very open to other suggestions
3. CPU - AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice 2.2GHz 512KB L2 Cache Socket 754 Processor (mainly because I can get a good deal on bundling it with the mobo.
4. DVD Burner (although already have Tivo and a burner on my DVD Player - I figure its worth the extra for a better burner than to just have a DVD-ROM)
That's basically it. I've got other components like game controllers I'll add to it too. Main purpose in having this is so that kids can play games on HDTV and as an upgrade to my existing surround system.
Do you see any compatiblity issues or something I've left out? This is only my third build so I'm learning. I know to order the artic silver and probably upgrade the fans. One question I did have though is the CPU addequate for gaming. Nothing to heavy. Mainly for the kids, which is mainly Lego Star Wars at this point since the oldest is 7. I've got a couple like Company of Hero's but rarely play. Also, this should allow me to pull up the internet on TV since II can easily run my internet connection to this location as well. AND I've got a spare wireless keyboard and one of those cordless "Gyro Air Mouse" things. They work pretty well after you get used to them. Much better on a large screen.
I appreciate any and all feedback. I look forward to hearing from you.
