The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

XP Home operating system failure, after installation of 256mb ram and new 160gb hard drive

Asked by camdencomputers in Computer Motherboards, Miscellaneous Hardware

Hi, I am chasing an intermittent problem. Windows XP #sp2 with all patches applied, Displays a message

Microsoft is unable to determine the exact cause of this error. However, this problem was most likely caused by an error in your computers RAM etc etc. During the crash analysis, we noticed the BIOS system version on this computer does not match the specifications for the CPU etc.

The problem started directly after two new components were installed onto this computer. The first, an additional 256mb RAM stick (corsair VS256mb400) added onto the system the original RAM was a Legend L3264D35-643MDC5X, 256mb PC2100.
The second, the addition of a prime IDE Western Digital 160 GB hard drive, with the operating system installed from scratch onto this drive.

The Motherboard is a 478 socket ASUS P4XA-AV with a VIA chipset VT8233.

We have run hardware testers on all the equipment for the last 2 days solid, with no failure on any component,

We suspect, but cannot confirm, hence your help, That either we have a RAM incompatibility OR the 160GB hard drive is too big for this chipset to address I.E 137gb addressing limit on older Mother boards.

Your help is appreciated
