Hello, Experts:
My I/O ports on the back panel of my PC are not working. When I say I/O ports, I'm referring to the panel on the back of the PC that houses the various I/Os for peripherals. (ie colored ports for microphone, mouse, keyboard, the USB ports, serial, and LPT ports, etc.)
A specific event resulted in what appears to be a global malfunction of all these ports on the back panel. (Minimal input functionality is still available through the 2 front side usb ports, which were not affected in the event)
The EVENT:
I have an External Midi Sound Module, an Edirol (Roland) SD-20, that operates via a USB connection. Both power and data transfer are supplied via the USB data cable. I was having trouble installing the device and its drivers. I went to the Roland support site for the SD-20 and found a handy-dandy (hmmm) utility that is designed to remove all existing Roland USB drivers with the intent of starting a fresh installation routine.
The utility URL is
www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.aspx?ObjectId=426&ParentId=114; however, the pertinent copy from that sight says:
Clean-All USB Driver Utility
This utility clears out all Roland USB Windows drivers and should be used if you are having difficulty
installing your USB driver. Note: You will have to reinstall the drivers for any other Roland device that is using a USB connection for Audio or MIDI.
Prior to running the utility, I disconnected all usb devices, as suggested in the readme.txt file. After running the utility, I performed a successful installation of the SD-20 and its drivers. BUT, somehow the I/O ports as described lost their functionality. I'm 99% sure there was a direct cause and effect relationship between the utility execution and the loss of I/O functionality. I've tested USB's, keyboard, and mouse, but not serial and LPT, and none are working. I can use the 2 front side USB ports fine.

Would you kind and generous Experts please lend me a hand with a solution to this problem? Taking a stab at a solution, might this be resolved by updated the BIOS? If so, please provide a link to instructions for that or an overview on how to do it. Thanks!
