The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. New board only "sees" floopy disk - Stuck

This may be a little long-winded, so apologies in advance . . . .

My son gave me his machine - built circa 2004 on a Asus P5GD2 Premium (LGA775 with Northridge 915P,  Silicon Image 3114 and an Intel ICH6R RAID Controllers) - 3 SATA Drives - 1 by itself + 2 in a RAID-0 (on the Sil Image) - 2 DVD drives - 1 floppy

Returning from vacation late August; the had machine died (circumstances unknown) - no light on mobo, so I replaced the power supply - no good.  

The mobo was in warranty and Asus sent me a replacement - I re-connected everything  exactly as my son had, but BIOS only saw floppy disk - Asus has replaced the board twice since - BIOS still ONLY sees the floppy, the RAM, and the USB devices.  I replaced one of the DVD drives with an older drive, but BIOS did not see it

I can;'t check the SATA hard drives - the only other PC in the house is E-IDE.  I bought an SATA to USB adapter, but it doesn't seem to work.  I really don't care if I recover the data on the drives - nothing critical.  

My Questions:

A new mobo and 1 new SATA hard disk is far cheaper than a new or re-furb machine, but before I drop the cash, what else should I check and how??

Any other suggestions/comments really appreciated - many thanks
